About Uttarakhand State Branch IMA

History
Uttarakhand State Branch IMA was established in its present form on 28th Jan. 2001. A meeting for the formation of IMA Uttaranchal State Branch was held on 28th Jan. 2001 at IMA House 1, Narendra Vihar, Ballupur Road, Dehradun, under the chairmanship of Dr.Bhim S. Pandhi, Dr.R.K.Gupta (Allahabad) President of IMA UP State Branch was present on this occasion as state observer.
The following resolution was passed:
“We the Presidents, Secretaries, Office Bearers and Members of IMA UP State, from the newly formed Uttaranchal State Territory , hereby resolve that all the local IMA Branches of this state henceforth will come under IMA Uttaranchal State Branch from today i.e. 28th January 2001 and the same should be informed to IMA UP State Branch HQ at Kanpur and National IMA HQs at New Delhi for final approval”.
The resolution was signed by the Founder President of Uttaranchal State IMA, Dr.Mahabir Singh (Dehradun) and Hony. State Secretary Dr.Deepak Dhar Choudhury (Dehradun). At the time of formation of Uttaranchal State IMA there were 21 local branches with total membership of 903.

It is my priveledge & honour to be the 1^st state President of IMA Uttrakhand to communicate with you through our newly installed website . Thanks to untiring efforts of Dr Punit Gupta who has been instrumental in starting this website . We have been spending some money to keep this web site alive but it can start earning its expenses only if it is surfed more frequently . That will help us not only to upgrade the website regularly   but also to make it more interesting & hence I shall request you to use this website for your communications.

I shall once again like to emphasize upon you that the true strength of any association is the number of its members . I call upon every member &  request them to enroll atleast one member to achieve the target of 100% membership.The number & the unity gives you strength to fight for your rights . My call to you is EACH ONE CATCH ONE & to please spare 5 minutes & Rs 5/- per day for the IMA to make it progress & prosper & meet out the expectations of the members .

I am committed to total transparency in the functioning of the state IMA & hence invite your suggestions for the betterment of IMA so that it becomes an association with a true democratic out look & an association of the members ,for the members & by the members .Keeping this motto in the forefront I wish to hold a general body meeting during Uttracon 2009.

We are striving hard to impress upon the government for the promulgation of the ordinance on the same lines as has been done in other states . It has the provision for fine and punishment for the offender involved in violence against the doctor & the medical establishment. A concerted effort by all the members may help us in getting the ordinance enacted.But only the ordinance may not be the solution to the problem of  violence which is multifactorial . Sticking to the basics of ethics & code of conduct ,being sensitive to the problems of the patients , improving doctor –patient relations & more importantly doctor –doctor relations are some of the key factors & may have some bearing in reducing these incidences of violence .

During the last decade or so various speciality associations have been formed & are attracting doctors of their respective disciplines & rightly so . The speciality associations are good to cater to the academic needs of the members but the professional & the social interests of the medical fraternity are better looked after by only one association & that is IMA .. IMA with a broad base of two lacs members is better equipped to deal with these aspects . IMA continues to be the parent body of the medical fraternity & is committed to always stand by its members.

Now I call upon all my committee members to form their sub committees & speed up their functioning. In the end I thank you all for the support that I am getting from you regularly  . Thank you very much .
